Overview: The park is long overdue for renovation and repair. Save for the swing set replaced (twice) in 2006, all other aspects need work, from the run-down playground equipment to flood-prone pavement and more. The park was opened approximately 30 years ago and has not been renovated since. A 10:1 match has been made available from the Alexander Company for park improvements.
Actions Taken: LCA has testified before both the P&P Planning Board (March 2007) and the County Council budget hearings (April 2007). Efforts have been made to reach out to Alexander and re-confirm the match, and to reach out to the two other associations (Forest Glen Park and North Woodside) to determine their interest in submitting projects for the matching funds.
Results: Testimony before Council resulted in pledge of follow-up assistance by Council members Nancy Floreen and Valerie Ervin. Alexander match has been cut by 1/3, as Forest Glen Park submitted a beautification project to claim its share of the match. North Woodside has yet to indicate whether they will direct their share to the park or submit a project for their neighborhood.
